China wants to recruit foreign pilots

In order to relieve the shortage of pilots in its aviation sector, China wants to recruit foreign airline pilots.

An official of the CAAC, the Chinese civil aviation authority, has said that foreign pilots will be able to get employment in China after getting Chinese flight licences, the China Daily reported. Pilots from overseas would reportedly have to pass strict exams.

The need for pilots is apparently increasing as the industry is growing faster than pilots can be trained. It has been estimated that there are about 11,000 pilots to fly more than 770 aircraft for the country's main airlines, but the number is thought to be insufficient to cope with rising demand.
